When it comes to living in a more environmentally friendly manner, the biggest
area we need to pay attention to as individuals is in our habits as far as consumption
of resources. The current global warming crisis has been brought on in large
part because the human race took for granted the ways in which we traveled,
and how our consumption was affecting the atmosphere.
The same lack of attention is guilty for numerous environmental crises today,
including a lack of water in the San Fernando Valley. Bankruptcy attorneys being
called in to smaller farms in this fertile area is common, because people took
for granted a limited supply of fresh water. However, unique homes within the
Valley are being designed with water efficiency in mind and have the latest
fittings that help to limit consumption of this finite resource.
Changes to the way we build our homes is a first step when it comes to making
changes, and in fact more people are taking advantage of the benefits of this
type of construction. Mortgages for environmentally friendly houses are a little
bit lower as governments begin to reward those who are living green. Because
of this, it can be said that buying a greener house is a way to reduce costs
of living as well as costs to the environment, thus it belongs in our cheap
changes section.
If you have already bought your own piece of Arlington real estate, however,
don't fret. There are still some cheap and easy changes you can make that will
help reduce the amount of resources you consumer around the home and through
your lifestyle.
Probably the most important change you can make is in your daily habits. You don't go have to go as far as looking into a biosolids application to fuel your car or home! The
environmentally conscious have long pointed out that by merely reducing shower
times by five minutes, or by turning off the water as you shave, literally gallons
of water can be saved each month. Not only will the water be saved, but the
amount of energy it takes to heat the water will be reduced as well. You will
get just as clean, but your energy bill will be a lot less!
As we alluded to in the opening paragraph, our transportation habits are another
area in which we can make some cheap and easy changes as far as our consumption
habits go. If you live in one of those beautiful High Park lofts, for example,
you really shouldn't need to use your car for anything other than trips
out of town (WAAAYY out of town!). The Toronto transit system is fast, efficient,
and convenient; there is no reason not to take advantage of this way to get
from one place to another within the GTA. You will probably find it not only
less expensive than paying fuel and maintenance costs on your own vehicle, but
faster as well as you get the right of way!
There are dozens of small changes you can make to your consumption habits that
are easy to make and good for the environment. Thanks to global internet access,
there are hundreds of suggestions right at your fingertips that can help you
live a greener life. We've made a few, now go on out and see just how many and
how easy green changes are.
