Today, everyone needs to be concerned with just how their energy consumption and lifestyle are affecting the planet's long term chances of sustaining life, whether you're living in a one of the condominiums on Toronto's waterfront or a farm outside of Bowmanville real estate. Unless you have been living on a different planet for the last five years, you probably know that there are some serious alarm bells being sounded over our future. The biggest concern is the matter of global warming, the phenomenon whereby trapped greenhouse gases cause an intensified level of heat from the rays of the sun. This extra heat is causing the planet to slowly warm up and changing life as we know it.
One of the scariest things about the global warming problem is that there are no quick solutions. Everybody has to do their part to ensure that it does not progress to the worst predictable levels. This means that you, I, and the person on the other side of the world are all inextricably linked in the struggle for our planet's survival. The responsibility comes down to how we get around, the products that we buy, from cloth diaper covers to business card designs and even in the places we make our homes.
This section of our site is dedicated to those homes and home designers that have made a significant effort to keep wastefulness to a minimum through green-living design. They are the residences that help to keep us at our current levels, as far as resources are concerned, using the help of nature. For example, they are using wind power, sun power and sometimes have locations on a waterfront. Homes using green technology keep the levels of energy used in them to the minimum. This can be done in the condos in downtown Toronto or on the farm.
Just how can a home impact the way we live, environmentally speaking? Well, designers tend to concentrate on the systems, appliances, and fixtures directly relating to energy consumption. These homes are equipped with technology that uses the least energy possible, or systems using forms of energy that are renewable and do not produce by-products, such as greenhouse gases.
How do they do this? Well, the feasibility of a green home often depends on location. Geothermal homes have to be located above the pockets occurring in the earth. The ideal spot for a solar powered home is in the open air on the waterfront. The real estate's location has to work together with the building's design to make green living a reality.
This kind of innovation and compatibility is what we will be focusing on in our green home section. Many of these homes tend to be high-end as well, if for no other reason than that the concept of green living is a fairly new one. We will take a look at condos located along a golf course, luxury beach homes, and even homes located in the middle of a big city, all of which have green living at the core of their design concept.
Many environmental watch dogs are also looking at the type of material used to build a home considered earth-friendly, and we will take a closer look at homes that meet these standards, as well. All in all, this section will be dedicated to specific homes and general ideas that help residents minimize their negative impact on the planet we live on.
